Serving the eastern Volusia County, Fl. area--primarily Ormond Beach, Holly Hill, Daytona area--Dare to Dream's Ministries purpose is to "Design, develop, and implement effective programs that will mentor youth and young adults of all races, nationalities, male and female...Support academic, spiritual, and athletic opportunities that will aid youth and young adults in reaching their full potential.Why the need?As the fabric of the family erodes, the moral climate of our youth is also falling apart. Role models are no longer successful businessman and woman, but rappers, actors, or athletes whose personal values can obscure the importance of moral values. Look at these statistics as examples:The Census Bureau reports that less than 8% of African American men will graduate from college.According to the Sentencing Project, 1 out of every 3 African American males will serve time in prisonIn the United States, 2800 teenagers get pregnant every day.In 1998, about a third of all victims of violent crime were ages 12 to 19,.Homicide is the leading cause of death for African American and Hispanic teens.Obesity among teen agers has tripled in the last 20 years.The teamPage 1Exective Director Harold Schellenbarg serves as Executive Director of Dare to Dream. Harold has his Master's in Administration and over 30 years of educational experience. Harold has served as head administrator for two Christian schools and overseen million dollar budgets in his work for these non-profits. He presently works full-time as a reading coach in the Volusia County school system.
